Michigan’s Democratic governor Gretchen Whitmer extended coronavirus lockdowns for a fifth time — until June 12. Whitmer made the move even as other states around the country are easing their shutdown mandates.
In a statement justifying her extended lockdown, Gov. Whitmer said while coronavirus cases and deaths are falling, “we are not out of the woods yet.”
“If we’re going to lower the chance of a second wave and continue to protect our neighbors and loved ones from the spread of this virus, we must continue to do our part by staying safer at home.”
“If we open too soon, thousands more could die and our hospitals will get overwhelmed. While we finally have more protective equipment like masks, we can’t run the risk of running low again.
We owe it to the real heroes on the front lines of this crisis — our first responders, health care workers and critical workers putting their lives on the line every day — to do what we can ourselves to stop the spread of the virus.”
Michigan has a population of almost 10 million people, but has so far recorded 5,158 deaths attributed to COVID-19.
Ironically, Whitmer extended her stay-at-home orders even as Dr. Anthony Fauci — once a vocal proponent of the draconian lockdowns — warned that extended lockdowns can cause “irreparable damage.”
“We can’t stay locked down for such a considerable period of time that you might do irreparable damage and have unintended consequences, including consequences for health,” Fauci said. “I don’t want people to think that any of us feel that staying locked down for a prolonged period of time is the way to go.”

Around the United States (and the world), there has been a massive spike in suicides, substance abuse, domestic violence, and child abuse as a result of the extended lockdowns.
Our politicians have the deaths of thousands on their heads. They should be held accountable. As well as Fauci and Birx.

Laura Cox, the chair of the Michigan Republican Party, blasted Whitmer, calling her move to extend lockdowns a political ploy. Cox also pointed out how sneaky Whitmer was being when she announced the extension late on Friday right before Memorial Day weekend.
“Not only is Gretchen Whitmer going around the state legislature with her stay-at-home orders, now she is going around the people of Michigan by announcing extensions after-hours on a holiday weekend,” Cox tweeted. “The only thing she is trying to keep safe is her political career.”

In early-May, Michigan residents gathered at the state’s Capitol Building to protest Governor Gretchen Whitmer‘s extended lockdown. Imagine how angry those people must be after the latest lockdown extension.
Last week, Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson torched Governor Whitmer as a petty bureaucrat who’s extending these lockdowns because she’s power-tripping.
“Nobody in America is enjoying all of this more than Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer,” Carlson said. “It’s always the most mediocre people who love fascism the most. It gives them power they never dreamed they would have and indeed don’t deserve. Whitmer wants this moment to last forever.”

Carlson continued: “This is insanity, and at some point we are going to look back in shame as we consider it. Politicians will always seize the maximum amount of power, they can. That’s why they went into politics in the first place. The question for us is: ‘Why are the rest of us allowing this to happen?’”
